  • 1 hairpin

Setting up your loom to make loom bands bowler hat hairpin!

Set up your loom in the SQUARED configuration, making sure the arrow is facing away from you, then place the bands in the order shown in the diagram.

Step 1:

Turn your loom so the arrow is facing towards you.You’re going to be hooking and looping the bands in reverse order to how they were placed. So, putting your hook inside red band 30, push it back , catch the bottom pair of  bands and loop them diagonally to upper right-hand peg.

Step 2:

Put your hook inside the peg you just looped to, catch the bottom pair of black bands and loop them forward.

Step 3:

You’ve now reached the body of the hat. Put your hook in the peg you just looped to, catch the middle pair of black bands and loop them diagonally to the central row.

Step 4:

The chain now forks. Put your hook in the peg you just looped to, catch the middle pair of bands and loop them diagonally to the upper left-hand peg.

Step 5:

Now, put your hook inside the peg you just looped to, catch the bottom pair of bands and loop them diagonally to the central row.

Step 6:

Go back to the peg where the  chain forked, catch the bottom pair of bands and loop them forward.

Step 7:

Hook and loop the next pair of bands forward in the same way.

Step 8:

Put your hook in the peg you just looped to, reach inside, catch the bottom pair of bands and loop them diagonally to the upper right-hand side.

Step 9:

Go back to where the body of the hat started. Reach inside that peg, catch black bands 12-13 from the bottom and loop them forward.

 

Step 10:

Hook and loop the remaining five pairs of bands in the chain forward, noting that the fifth will be looped diagonally to the central row. Make sure you always go inside the other bands on the hook and only catch the bottom pair each time.

Step 11:

Put your hook in the peg you just looped to, catch the bottom band and loop it horizontally to the left-hand side.

Step 12:

Now, catch the bottom band from the last peg and pull it up through itself to create a slipknot.

Step 13:

Pull all your bands off the loom. Wrap the slipknot twice around the brim on the same side.

 

Step 14:

Now, take your hairpin and weave it through the base of your hat to complete it. You’re ready for business!
